Fabric first: synthetic fabric, digital printing and the fabric supply that feeds India’s other clusters.

What Surat makes best
Surat is a fabric cluster. Its mills and printers supply synthetic fabric and digital prints that other clusters then cut and sew.
Brands that need a digital print or a synthetic fabric, made up into garments in the cluster built for the product.
Surat’s output is fabric rather than finished garments. Pairing it with the right sewing cluster is the whole job, and it is the part we plan for you.

Send the fabric spec (fiber, weight, print artwork) and the garment it becomes. We plan the make-up with the factory built for that product.
1brief
covers the fabric and the make-up. We place each part where it is done best.
Honest limits
Surat makes the cloth. Asking it to make the garment as well is where briefs go wrong.
Where it struggles
Cutting, sewing and finishing are not Surat’s strength. Plan the sewing in another cluster from the start instead of discovering it at sampling.
What to do instead
The fabric ships to the factory built for your garment. We plan both lead times so the fabric arrives when the line is ready.
Worth knowing
Surat makes synthetic fabric, but bonded seams, laser cutting and engineered technical knits are not where India leads. For performance kit, India is often the wrong answer.
If no factory in our group is built for your product, we tell you by email before any fee is discussed.
Minimums and timing
The mill or printer sets the fabric minimum; the sewing factory sets the garment minimum. Garment figures are market ranges, not quotes; we confirm both with your brief.
Fabric minimums depend on the mill and the print; we confirm them with your brief. Garment figures are market ranges from published industry sources.

We read it, check the fit and quote our fee in writing before any work starts.
Sampling3–5 weeks
Longer if the fabric has to be commissioned. Approve fit, fabric and finish here.
Fabric3–6 weeks
Usually the critical path. Ask for the fabric delivery date, not only the ship date.
Production4–6 weeks
Once fabric is in house: cutting, sewing, finishing and the factory’s own checks.
Shipped12–16 weeks
From approved sample to goods shipped on a first order. Repeat orders: 8–10 weeks.

On the floor
Surat fabric is cut and sewn on lines like these, in the cluster built for the garment.

Five questions brands ask before they order.
Synthetic fabric, digital printing and fabric supply that feeds India’s other clusters. It is fabric rather than garment: make-up and finishing are its weak side.
It is not where we would plan the sewing. We source the fabric or print in Surat and place the make-up with the factory in our group built for your product, for example Delhi NCR for woven dresses or Tiruppur for knits.
The mill or printer sets it, per design and color, and we confirm it with your brief. The garment then has its own minimum at the sewing factory: 100 per style across our group, about 300 for a woven shirt on stock fabric.
Fabric takes 3–6 weeks and is usually the critical path. Plan 3–5 weeks for sampling, then 12–16 weeks from approved sample to goods shipped on a first order, and 8–10 weeks on a repeat.
The monsoon (June to September) slows dyeing and drying; Diwali (October or November, date moves every year) closes most factories for 1–2 weeks.
Usually not. Bonded seams, laser cutting and engineered technical knits are not India’s depth. For cotton-rich sport and lounge pieces, India works well; for performance kit, we will tell you plainly if it doesn’t fit.
